Summary

Based on a painting of the same title in the Tate collection www.tate.org.uk, the print shows the bedroom at 44 rue Agurado in Dieppe where Sickert had a studio. The sitter was Marie Peppin, Sickert’s maid. Sickert used the same interior for the print The New Tie. The etchings went through three states, and 16 posthumous impressions were made for the Sickert Trust in 1945/7. This print is a second state.
