Camille Orovida Pissarro was born in Epping, Essex, the daughter of the painter Lucien Pissarro. She received her art education from her family and taught herself to etch with the help of a book. An exhibition of Chinese painting in 1924 at the British Museum determined her oriental style. Animals, in particular horses and tigers, were frequent subjects which she treated in a strictly linear and decorative manner with no attempt at naturalisation.
