Charles Mozley was born in Sheffield and studied at the local art school, and later at the Royal College of Art in London During the war he served in the army and, like many other artists, worked in camouflage. After 1945 he was in great demand as a designer – working for organisations as diverse as Shell, London Transport and Lyons Teashops to the Society of London Painter-Printers. He painted murals for the Festival of Britain on the South Bank. In all he designed over 300 book jackets and illustrated around 40 books for both adults and children.
