Dorrit Epstein, née Fuhrmann, known professionally as Dorrit Dekk, was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic). As a child she moved to Austria and studied at the Kunstgewerbe Schule in Vienna, following the annexation of Austria Dekk moved to London to study at the Reimann School from 1938-39. During the war she worked in radio intelligence. After the war she adopted the professional name of Dekk and worked for the Central Office of Information. Dekk designed the mural of People at Play for the Festival of Britain’s travelling exhibition Land Traveller. Other clients included London Transport, British Rail and the National Savings Bank.
