Stephen Buckley was born in Leicester in 1944 and studied at the University of Reading and at the University of Durham under Richard Hamilton.

During his career he has taught at Canterbury College of Art, Leeds College of Art, Chelsea School of Art and finally was appointed Professor of Fine Art at University of Reading.

Buckley’s abstract work has been influenced by Duchamp, Picabia and Schwitters and he often works on a large scale. His work has appeared as public commissions and has received several prizes and awards.

Buckley was dedicated numerous solo exhibitions in Britain including Austin Desmond Fine Art, Museum of Reading, Tate Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Arnolfini Gallery and many others. He also exhibited abroad at the Bologna Art Fair, Italy; Omano Gallery in Japan; Yale Center for British Art in Haven, Connecticut, USA; Galleri Malgram in Sweden and many other venues.
