Sonia Boyce is an artist of Afro-Caribbean origin born in London in 1962.

She studied at Stourbridge College of Art and Technology and attended the first conference of Black Artists in Wolverhampton in 1982.

Boyce works with collage and mixed media and the main theme of her work questions racial stereotypes and cultural differences. Her recent works have included vocalists and audiences as active and integral parts of the show.

Her solo exhibitions include Black Art Gallery in 1986, the Whitechapel Gallery in 1988 and the Hayward in 1989-90.Art Council, British Council and Tate Modern hold her works.

Boyce was awarded an MBE for services to art in 2007 and continues to live and work in London.
