Summary

Boshier was born in Portsmouth (1937) and studied at the Royal College of Art where he became associated with Pop art, drawing on American culture and politics for his subject matter. In 1970 he started to experiment with other media, in particular film and photography. The works here were made in parallel to films, and simply describe journeys using a camera to capture moments or ‘stills’ along the way; in one instance a view of a road in rural Wales, which captures a lorry’s logo appearing and disappearing between the hills. The resulting photographs were commercially developed, the rounded edges being a particular fad in the 1970s, and then assembled in line to give the appearance of a length of cine film.
