Born in Coventry in 1936 John Blakemore is a British photographer and print maker who has been practicing art since 1956.

He works in black and white, focusing on still-lives and landscapes, with a particular focus on tulips, symbols of sensuality and elegance. Other projects included a study of the people of Coventry and its post war reconstruction. Blakemore is celebrated for detail, texture and tonal richness of his work.

Blakemore began teaching at the University of Derby in the 1970’s and won the Fox Talbot Award for Photography in 1992.

His books include Inscape (1991) and Stilled Gaze (1994).
