Quentin Blake, born in Sidcup in 1932, is a popular English cartoonist and children’s book author who is most renowned for his illustrations in the books of Roald Dahl.

He was educated in Cambridge, took part time classes at Chelsea School of Art and from 1965 to 1978 was tutor in illustration at the Royal College of Art where he was made senior fellow in 1988.

He illustrated many books written by other popular authors such as Lewis Carroll, Patrick Campbell and Michael Rosen but is also a writer himself. His own book Mister Magnolia won in 1980 the Kate Greenaway Medal and in 1983 he was honoured with a retrospective at The National Theatre.

Blake has collaborated with magazines and provided illustrations for Punch and the Spectator. He has exhibited at Chris Beetles Ltd, Somerset House and Dulwich Picture Gallery.
