Sybille Berger was born in 1962 in Stuttgart, Germany.

She studied at Hoch Schule der Künste in Berlin and then at Goldsmiths’ College in London where she obtained a master’s in Fine Art.

Her pared-down, abstract style took the form of large scale works depicting thick, immaculate bands of intense colour. Notable group exhibitions during her career include Dumbpop, the inaugural show at the Jerwood Space in 1999 as well as Tate Gallery in Liverpool and Camden Arts Centre.

In 2005 major exhibitions of her work took place at Kettles Yard and the Newlyn Art Gallery.

She died in 2008 aged just 46.
